Indira Gandhi National Foundation is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) which got registered during 1998.The registered organization is having a long history of voluntary service of 8 years since its inception during 1998.
The mandate of this organization is to provide supportive services to poor classes of women for empowerment in term of training for human resource development. The need for such an organization was really felt by social workers like Shri. Chempazhanti Anil and Shri. Raiju Thomas, who are treated as the founding members of the foundation.
Empowerment of the disadvantaged and marginalized section like women of Minority groups, Backward Classes and Scheduled caste require special focus, which is often neglected by the planners and the administrators. The need for such a training Project was much felt due to the fast increase of women headed families in Kerala as compared to other state in India . As per NFHS report, the properties of female headed households in Kerala during 1999 was 22.1 percent while it was only
10.3 percent at the national level. As domestic violence is one of the factors contributing to the increase in the number of women headed families among the Minority Groups, Backward classes and Scheduled Castes, our NGO developed skill Development and upgradation training projects to these disadvantaged sections as a Means of Empowerment.
